There are 1.5 billion young people in the world today, the largest number in history, but many barriers make them the least likely to have access to HIV education, prevention, testing, and treatment.

We believe in giving young people the power to navigate their many health needs to overcome these barriers. Our partnership with Kasha Kenya supports a pioneering digital platform making HIV care in Kenya more convenient than ever for young people.

“Project Beyond” confidentially delivers HIV prevention and treatment products directly to client’s homes via Kasha’s digital distribution platform. This initiative is set to transform access to healthcare in Kenya by not only making it easier and safer for young people to receive HIV care including PrEP and lifesaving treatment, but they will also be able to connect to other telehealth services and bundle additional products like condoms, soap or sanitary pads to their orders.

“In our work with young people, we are listening to what young people are clamoring for. What we’ve heard is that they want services, care, and products brought directly to them, wherever they are and whenever they need it,” explains Dr Lindsay Hayden, Young People Portfolio Lead at the Elton John AIDS Foundation. “They want one-stop shopping. When they arrive at a clinic, they don’t want to go to one place for HIV and another for mental health, they want it all in one convenient location. We are delivering on that with Project Beyond, bringing services directly to their doorstep.”

Addressing Critical Challenges

The Elton John AIDS Foundation is working with partners around the world to deliver different models of care that aim to tackle the critical challenges that young people face when it comes to accessing care. Kasha’s convenient and discrete approach is crucial to overcoming barriers such as stigma, education, transport to health facilities, and overburdened health facilities.

Kasha empowers young people by giving them full access to a wide range of health products and comprehensive information about those products, enabling them to make informed choices tailored to their unique situations. When an order has been placed, Kasha can reach people within 24 hours.

Not only does this provide more convenient care, but by utilizing AI technology, Kasha can anticipate when a young person might fall off their treatment. This allows Kasha to provide proactive support, ensuring they remain healthy and on track.
